There is a lot of superstition in the racing industry. For example, “blue” colored greyhounds (really a grayish blue) have a superstitious legend behind them that kennel owners claim make them bad racers. There’s no evidence behind this, but it’s a superstition, so it’s common for many kennel owners to kill blue colored greyhound puppies only on the basis of their color. Sometimes, if adoption groups are lucky, the kennel owners give them up for adoption but it’s rare.

I don’t know much about greyhound racing but I love the breed. Why were these puppies going to be put down? Why did they breed them in the first place if they did not want them? They are lovely puppies.

Aww Greyhound puppies are so cute! If these people are selling Greyhound puppies for profit then they are personally responsible for the death of as many in the litter they claim to treasure in the form of adult Greyhounds. If it was an accident then they are just guilty of stupidity. You cannot claim to love the breed and breed more and ignore the tragedy unfolding around this breed.I have two that were starved from the Guam rescue and if they are breeding it is morally repulsive

Actually, mmglv, most greyhounds are hanged. The rope can be reused, bullets cost money.

slidecube May 2, 2010 at 9:38 pm

@Uncle I want one too, they are beautiful animals. My wife wants like five, and I could almost see myself conceding to this.

I did bother to read the description that’s why I referred to the puppies’ young age (as it states “4 six week old greyhound puppies”). It was a question. The RSPCA, along with justanswer, ask, yahoo, the NZ SPCA amongst a few all cite that this age is too early to leave their mother.

yap

First of all, Wikipedia is far from a reliable source on any topic. Second, if you had BOTHERED TO READ THE DESCRIPTION, these came off a race track and are on their way to new adoptive homes. If there wasn’t a home available to adopt them, their fate would have most likely been death by .22 caliber bullet to the head as which is a common means of euthanizing greyhounds on the tracks.

to race?

Denmark1534 May 3, 2010 at 1:37 am

I got my dog at 4 weeks and since we got him so young and saw us act and everything he was a sort of dog-humain loll ! when He got tall enough , everybody would go to the table to eat and he would steal someone’s chair and wait for his food ( of course we taught him it wasn’t right but you could get a better dog so I don’t think it’s that crazy to let them go young )

waynoracer May 3, 2010 at 2:15 am

the mother chases some pups and can kill and attack the pups once they are 6 weeks as she gets sick of them and wont assosiate with them again untill they are over 12 weeks thats why greyhounds are sold between 6 to 8 weeks or isolated from the mother untill 12 weeks
referance: my 12 years of breeding sight hounds

UncleTurdMuffin May 3, 2010 at 2:25 am

I want a greyound uppy so badly….I’m saving up to adopt one. I may get an adult from the race track.

I want one so bad!

maximshere May 3, 2010 at 3:13 am

Should these puppies have been allowed to leave their mother at such an early age? See Wikipedia:
“Responsible breeders will not sell a puppy that is younger than eight to twelve weeks old, and in many jurisdictions, it is illegal to give away puppies younger than a certain age (usually between eight and twelve weeks)”
