I saw a pair of these at the zoo in Palm Desert (near Palm Springs). They are quite a thing to marvel at in person. They were really loud and “talkative”. It was great seeing the direct ancestors of my fat cats who sleep all day and fill up on Meow Mix. Sometimes though, you see their wild side come out: Just a few days ago my older cat brought a mouse into the house and was very proud of his catch. Cats are such interesting animals.

This makes our own house cats seem more interesting. O;

I tend to think of cats as wild animals that just pretend to be domesticated because they like us.

PrishtinaHottiee September 3, 2010 at 4:36 pm

lol how can you tell them appart from a reg cat, i cant

madururu September 3, 2010 at 5:19 pm

sparkleprincess89 September 3, 2010 at 5:49 pm

does the kitten die from the spider poison????

elbethere September 3, 2010 at 6:31 pm

They are, after all, the direct ancestors of the domestic cat.

SuviJade September 3, 2010 at 7:27 pm

I love how they are so much like domestic cats. It shows how little they have changed over time…still pretty wild! I think that’s great.

molfluon September 3, 2010 at 7:41 pm

Very handsome creatures indeed. Highly reminiscent. Especially the tendency for the kittens to get into scrapes.

greytabbysfriend September 3, 2010 at 8:29 pm

You can see that our domestic felines are derived from these.

dexamyl September 3, 2010 at 8:35 pm

Thanks so much for sharing ! It’s truly amazing to observe our “domestic” feline companions’ blood relatives in their original habitat ; and thanks to the Egyptians , these beautiful animals are great companions .

JongeWolf September 3, 2010 at 9:30 pm

but the mouse got away, so it isnt a poor animal after all haha

JongeWolf September 3, 2010 at 9:37 pm

hes just slapping the mouse. the poor animal. but hey, the cats are still learning, and theyre doing terrific

JongeWolf September 3, 2010 at 10:10 pm

great, i always wanted to see more of the african wildcat, because theyre hard to observe

Column111 September 3, 2010 at 10:23 pm

I read that cats have some form of defense against spider venom as otherwise as kittens they would all probably die from being bitten by spiders when playing with them like that.

tckfui September 3, 2010 at 10:33 pm

is the girl cat going to be okay?

jlol September 3, 2010 at 10:59 pm
