@sweetiegrl41 No. Every year, a Jellicle cat is chosen to go to the “Heavyside Layer”, sort of like “heaven” where the cat is to be “reborn” and reincarnated into a new life. Old Deuteronomy choses who gets to be reborn because he is the tribe leader. Grizabella is chosen on this year.

i saw cats in 84 when it first came to LA. you had to be a SAG member to get in.it was a different program. it seems more comical now.more serious then.
but its hard not to cry when you see this..

You can totally see the horrible despair in her eyes. It is absolutely heartbreaking. There is also the feeling of loneliness in a crowded place, where she is alone with lots of people. It makes me want to weep for her. It hurts inside. I feel helpless while faced with such terrible sorrow. The emotion in this song leaves me breathless. The feelings are apparent, but do not hurt the song in any way.
This is an amazing song.
It amazes me, that this musical is so enjoyable, and so many people, old and young, enjoy it, that people still comment on it to this day.

I remember when one of my teachers showed this to my class and one she was subbing one day to settle us down and the room went completely quiet when this song came up. Everyone got into it.
