I love folk and it would make an awesome album cover! Have you ever heard of John Gorka ….www,johngorka.com
This would make a great magazine cover and a great book on cat pictures.

KitschKat April 6, 2010 at 5:54 pm

That’s COOL! Fun thread and resulting album cover! I bet they will be big stars!

You have way too much talent so right now I’m a little mad at you.
That album cover is smashing, top to bottom, beginning to end.

kevin, I LOVE this! Your mum must be so proud of your folky roots! Very Mitch and Micki!

Kevin Steele April 6, 2010 at 7:29 pm

I just had time to post this for contacts and rush out. Thanks, everyone, for the near instant gratification! (And all the great ideas!)

Now, I’ll see if I can figure out a few appropriate pools to share this with a few more random people.

It’s been an interesting week on Flickr, to say the least.

Sheila Steele April 6, 2010 at 8:03 pm

This is Kevin’s mum. Equal parts pride and jealousy. So glad he survived all the deadly sins he was exposed to. Love him and the kitties and I’m going out right now to buy the album as soon as it is available on CD.

Good morning! Wow, even mom has been by! And a cow!

Love the puns.

‘Pastiche’ is a word I don’t use often enough. I will have to do something about that.

I love the cropped version with the half-a-cat-face in this one even more than the full-cat-face of the original photo! Too cool!

heheheheh they r really cool cats :D

lucycat April 7, 2010 at 6:09 am

This is truly a work of comic art! Hilarious! Congratulations, Kevin and all who participated!

PhylG April 7, 2010 at 7:08 am

Oh Kevin, this is an absolute *scream*! It looks so real — and the song titles are brilliant.

I should mention that the concept of the "Mothership" came from this discussion thread on Table Talk:

Cats and Other Furry Fiends

And they’re all loving your work, and the development of the album! Well done, everyone!

Kevin Steele April 7, 2010 at 7:13 am

Neat, Phyl. Thanks again, everyone, for the rave reviews.

I almost haven’t the heart to tell you all that these are often pretty quiet cats and we’d probably just have to have them lip-syncing to work by professional vocal cats.

Toby sometimes walks around squeaking, and if you pick him up he make light little gasps like he is letting out air. Eh. Eh. Xena will meow more typically, but she doesn’t speak up all that much.

This has been a blast, and I can even count some of this as work. I get a portfolio piece out of this (and usually I only get a few a year) that comes with a great story. Thanks! And its also just a great way to tell people about Flickr.

Escape_to_Christel April 7, 2010 at 7:36 am

Great!

Kevin Steele April 7, 2010 at 8:09 am

Thanks!

After brushing Xena this morning I realized I had forgotten to mention: When she is attended with her Zoom Groom brush she can become very loud, all purrs, meows and snorts. As well, if I pick her up and squeeze her just a bit too hard for her comfort, I can play her like an accordion for half a minute or so.

(michelle) April 7, 2010 at 8:37 am

I can play her like an accordion for half a minute or so.

ha! now that’s a fabulous mental image.

PhylG April 7, 2010 at 9:28 am

=we’d probably just have to have them lip-syncing to work by professional vocal cats.=

Kitty Vanilli!

And I’m howling at the thought of playing Xena like an accordion.

Kevin Steele April 7, 2010 at 9:33 am

What a scandal it would be!

Sheila Steele April 7, 2010 at 9:57 am

Kitty Vanilli. Perfect. Maybe Fiddy could rap on a track?

Kevin Steele April 7, 2010 at 10:47 am

Sure thing.

The painful truth, though, is that I was absolutely sure there was a great Vanilli pun here, but for the life of me I couldn’t think of it. I blame it on too much thinking about rhymes for rain.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease, Phyl!

natmeister April 7, 2010 at 11:11 am

hilarious! i love it

fofurasfelinas April 7, 2010 at 12:10 pm

I just love it, everything: the cats, the title songs and the wonderful art for the cover! VERY CREATIVE

_Rachelle April 7, 2010 at 12:49 pm

AWESOME! Love it!

BernieG10 April 7, 2010 at 12:58 pm

I’m so pleased with myself for never getting rid of my record player. I can’t wait to receive my copy! What is the S/H charge?

Kevin Steele April 7, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Hmmm… maybe one day I’ll have to send the cats into the studio to actually record. Surely they could make something less annoying than Jingle Cats. I have a feeling, though, that the music might not end up so folksy, especially since Toby has been dipping into the Public Enemy.

soulspin April 7, 2010 at 2:24 pm

This is definitely one of the most notable cat images on Flickr :D
